OW2 Consortium Fact Sheet

OW2 is a global open-source software community which mission is to develop open source code middleware and to foster a vibrant community and business ecosystem.

OW2 Members cooperate in the development of open-source distributed middleware, in the form of flexible and adaptable components. OW2 osters a common technical architecture to be shared by its members and to facilitate the implementation of its technology by systems integrators and end-users. OW2 developments follow a component-based approach. OW2 hosts over one hundred technology Projects, ranging from specific software frameworks and protocols to integrated platforms. They include for example Lomboz, Sync4j, eXo Platorm, XWiki, SpagoBI and JOnAS. Several of these projects are combined into market-driven Initiatives, such as the ESB/SOA Initiative and the Business Intelligence Initiative, which facilitate their implementation by systems integrators,

The consortium is an independent non-profit organization open to companies, institutions and individuals. OW2 federates more than one hundred organizations and 6000 developers in Europe, Asia and the Americas. OEMs and end-users. A typical global open-source organization, OW2 aims to bring together grassroots communities across all continents through Local Chapters. OW2 is committed to growing a community of open source code developers. In the open source software value chain, OW2 is positioned as an industry platform facilitating interaction between open source code Producers and open source code Consumers

OW2 is a founding member and Partner of the NESSI program. Many of the consortium's members such as Engineering, Thales, EBMwebsourcing, etc.have an experience in handling or participating in EU-funded programs. OW2 is the largest European open-source community. It is now on its way to become one of the most prominent open-source organization in the world. OW2 organizes many community meetings, including an annual conference which is a focus point for the European open-source community. Dissemination is probably what the consortium does best for EU-funded programs. OW2 provide a powerful communication channel towards the open-source world.

Cédric Thomas Took the OW2 CEO job after a) defining the key concepts and the organization of this new open-source consortium and b) implementing it through negociating the merger between the ObjectWeb community originated in Europe and the OrientWare communities from China. Cedric Thomas has over twenty years' experience in strategic consulting and IT market analysis. In 1997, he founded, FronTier Associates, a strategy consulting firm, where he advises both large organizations and technology start-ups. Prior to that, Cédric Thomas was Vice-President and Associate Director of Pierre Audoin Conseil, the leading European independent company in consultancy and marketing studies for the software and IT services markets.
