NATZARDS

NATURAL HAZARDSThe aim of NATZARDS is to contribute to a better assessment of natural hazards risk perception of society.

The goal of NATZARDS is to:

- gather, generate and transfer Natural Hazards knowledge

- build an Information and Communication space

- identify, network, and coordinate the multiple research efforts

- leverage these multidisciplinary efforts with other activities.

Area 6.1.3.2. Vulnerability assessment and societal impacts

ENV.2008.1.3.2.1. Natural Hazards: Social perception, behaviour and responses to risks

The aim of this action is to contribute to a better assessment of risk perception of societies and communities confronted by natural disasters.

The project should identify and assess key studies, initiatives, best practices and existing legal tools in order to elaborate strategies and recommendations for actions to improve capacity building, preparedness and resilience of the society in the context of natural hazards.

Gaps in research in these fields need to be assessed.

Education on disaster prevention and awareness raising of the society as a means to improve social perception and change behaviour needs to be considered in a multidisciplinary context.

The actions described under this topic could be mainly organised by means of small workshops enabling synthetics vision papers, guidelines and recommendations to be elaborated.

Funding scheme: coordination and support actions (coordinating type)

Areas s of RCM: Hazard Assessment

The objectives will be achieved by the following steps:
- investigating scale of hazard representation for different typologies of natural events and defining a common standard of presentation in order to avoid connection conflicts;
- investigating physical and physiographic characters of the territory (e.g. lithology, topography); developing inventory and susceptibility maps and defining possible triggering factors of the several natural hazards affectig the test areas;
- investigating the relationship among different
natural hazards (induced hazards) (inventory maps and susceptibility maps and defining possible triggering factors);
- developing historical catalogues of natural disasters of the test area; - analysing and modelling climate change effects on frequency and distribution of natural hazards; application will be developed, if possible to susceptibility maps and natural hazard maps;
- developing a macrozoning multi-hazard map (expected events in defined return periods at regional scale) by using GIS technology;
- developing a microzoning multi-hazard map (site response) by using GIS technology, for selected element of the case study;
- investigating and mapping the environmental consequences of industrial accidents caused by natural hazards (Na-Techs);
- identifying and mapping socio-economic exposed elements (e.g. industry; utilities; work force; population; cultural heritage);
- identifying and mapping socio-economic/vulnerability factors and severity/vulnerability relationship;
- to assess risk in terms of social and economic factors by using GIS technology (at regional scale and at site scale);
- developing strategies and options for a sustainable development of the territory reducing the effects of natural disasters (mitigation).

Pilot project ‘Erasmus for young entrepreneurs’

Pilot project ‘Erasmus for young entrepreneurs’

The new pilot project ‘ERASMUS for young entrepreneurs’ will facilitate training, networking and exchange of experiences among nascent young entrepreneurs by means of traineeships in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in another country. This action will contribute to promote entrepreneurship, internationalisation and competitiveness of established SMEs and new start-up enterprises in the EU.

Measures to prepare the pilot project:
• A Flash Eurobarometer survey on the demand for mobility among entrepreneurs, particularly young nascent entrepreneurs
• A Feasibility Study on the supply of hosting SMEs and the implementation of the project
• A Stakeholders’ Meeting in December 2007 to obtain feedback from national authorities, business associations, business support organisations, business school teachers, entrepreneurs and others

Dear all (400 InnovaNet collaborators),

Sure that now you know that the FP7 KBBE, ENV-1 and ICT-3 call are published. Our groups have demonstrated efficiency in the production of innovative proposals in the last months (one each two weeks), this frequency is absolutely needed in order to be competitive (Averages of success of 1/10 are absolutely normal in the calls actually)

In this way, we have launched, the new groups for preparing five proposals:
